Get your business listed on Google Maps for free!

29 Sep 2017

Adding your business or organization to Google is simple to do and absolutely free. Business listings show details and important information including location, hours, services offered, photos, and more on Google Maps.

Get started by going to: https://www.google.com/business/. Once there, click the Get Started button. Sign into your Google account. If you don't have a Google account, you can create one for free here

Next, add your business information. Be sure to select the correct category and enter your complete website address with https:// or http://. You'll be able to add additional categories later, so start with the one that best fits your business. Click continue at the bottom. If your business is already on Google Maps, you will see the current listing. If not, verify that you are authorized to represent this business on Google.

Finally, you will need to verify your business. There are two ways to do this: by automated phone call or receiving a postcard in the mail. Not all businesses will be able to verify over the phone. Google does this to ensure the business does exist and that you really are the owner or representative.

If you can choose phone, you'll need to enter a code on when Google calls your business phone number. If you choose (or must) receive a postcard to verify your business, a code will arrive via USPS in a few days (usually arrives in 3 or 4 days, but may take longer). Follow the instructions on that card to verify your business.

While your business is awaiting verification, you can still add photos and update most of the information like hours and services. It is important to keep your business listing updated and accurate. I recommend you check your listing at least once a month. There are also free iOS and Andriod apps available to help you manage your business listing.
